Ivo Dropulich
The Violinist
Ivo Dropulich was
born 1986 in Zagreb, Croatia, into a family of musicians.
His mother Emilia Mancheva, a Bulgarian pianist and teacher, his father Zharko
Dropulich a renowned Croatian organist, teacher and composer. Ivo received his
first musical lessons from his parents at the age of three. At the age of five
he started studying the violin in Sofia and Plovdiv with Violeta
Stoyanova and Darina Dankova. In 1996 Ivo had his first solo recital in Plovdiv playing Bach,
Paganini and Wieniawski.
Regarded as a child prodigy, as a twelve - year old and youngest contestant at
the National Violin Competition in Croatia, he won first prize playing Paganini's
First Violin Concerto, and also became the apsolute winner of all categories
for all the instruments.
In 2001. Ivo made a charity concert at the European House in Zagreb, for the
benefit of the Music Academy. He enrolled at the Music Academy in Zagreb and
studied with prof. Tonko Ninich and prof. Leonid Sorokov. At the age of
nineteen Ivo graduated and received a first class degree. During his studies at the Academy, Ivo receives the Rektor’s award.
In the year 2002 he won first prize at the competition for the Croatian
representative at the «EBU», the Eurovision Contest of Young Musicians, in
Zagreb and also became the youngest winner of the Stiepan Shulek Award – for
the best performance of a Violin Composition.
In 2005 he was the winner of the 3-rd prize at the International Violin
Competition Vaclav Huml in Zagreb, and was called “the revelation of the
competition” by Maxim Fedotov, a jury member of the competition. He won the Zagreb Philharmonic PBZ American Express Award - for the most
successful young musician, and went to Japan on a extensive concert tour with
the Zagreb Philharmonic (Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka, Nagoya) playing the Mendelssohn`s
E-minor Violin Concerto.
In 2006. he enrolles at the «Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst Wien»
studying with prof. Michael Frischenschlager. Ivo made a Masterclasses with Zakhar Bron, Dora Schwarzberg, Asia
Kushner and Kevork Mardirossian. Ivo played double Violin Concertos with Leonid Sorokov in Zagreb and Robert
Marechek in Bratislava at the Verazhdin barock evenings. He has colaborated
with the pianists Marina Kapitanova, Emilia Mancheva, Andrea Feitl, Petra
Gilming, Nikola Paskalov and others. Ivo also makes private studies with the famous Bulgarian violinist prof. Mincho Minchev.
With a remarkable success he appeared with the Chamber Orchestra of the Sofia
Soloists in Sofia and Plovdiv, at the closing concert of the “International
Music Festival of Chamber Music” playing Mozart`s 3-rd and 5-th Violin
Concertos, winning both audience and critics.
Ivo also played the Sibelius Violin Concerto with the Zagreb Philharmonic
in Zagreb, «Lisinski Hall».
He has appeared with the leading orchestras in Croatia: the Zagreb Philharmonic, the Zagreb Soloists, the Croatian Radio Television Symphony Orchestra, the Dubrovnik Symphony Orchestra and the Varazhdin Chamber Orchestra with wich as a soloist and a conductor in Paganini`s First Violin Concerto. He played with the Cappella Istropolitana Ensemble from Bratislava, and with the Plovdiv Philharmonic Orchestra.
Among the conductors with whom he has worked are Alun Francis, Pavel Balev, Allin Vlasenko, Alexey Izmirliev, Johannes Wildner, Nicholas Milton, Yuki Miyagi, Plamen Djouroff, Zlatan Srzich, Mladen Tarbuk, Nada Matoshevich, Ivan Repushich, Gianluigi Borrelli, Ognian Mitonov and others.
Mr. Dropulich has given concerts in Austria, Bulgaria, Germany, Italy, Republic of Macedonia, Slovakia and Japan. In 2007 he released an album for solo violin: J.S.Bach - Partita No.2, E. Ysaye - Sonata No.4, Zharko Dropulich- Sonata for Solo Violin and Nicolo Paganini: «Nel cor piu non mi sento».

Mr. Dropulich plays a Jean Baptiste Vuillaume 1824.
